Jacket cut and constructed by Athene Wright

The pattern was modified from Vogue Pattern (V8333) and built as an introductory tailoring project. The jacket is fully lined and with hand crafted padding in the shoulders and chest consisting of layers of Hymo, horsehair canvas, french canvas and baby flannel pad stitched and attached to the inside of the wool. The sleeves are supported by shoulder pads and sleeve heads custom made in accordance with the slimmer cut and feminine nature of the jacket. In addition, the sleeves are equipped with fully functioning vent. The button holes on the breast and sleeve are hand bound and are, likewise, fully functional. The whole was fit at multiple stages to the model and the pattern was altered to enhance fit as well as quality. Several aspects of the commercial pattern, such as the sleeves and collar were altered to adhere more closely to men’s tailoring standards.
