The base structure of this mascot head was made by molding the thermoplastic Varaform over a foam block. To create the block, I used an experimental method in which I 3D scanned an existing owl sculpture, developed it into a CNC router file, then cut a full scale version of the statue in foam. I used this foam owl to form the structure of the head. The Varaform is mulled in ice wool and covered with a ribbed fabric. I used the face side of the same fabric to make the feathers. This head has good visibility through the eyes and center of the face. It is breathable and remains relatively cool when worn.
