This blog is intended to be a companion to my portfolio elaborating on the creation process of its pieces and the progress of my career.
As the title of this post indicates, I am just starting out. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2016 with a major in non-western history and a minor in Geology. Costuming for theater was never my goal but just fell into my lap. I started out working for student productions and things snowballed until I found myself spending more time taking classes with the costuming department than with the history department. After graduating I decided to remain in Chapel Hill to take just a few more classes. As this year finishes up I am looking at entering the arena of fully professional costuming.
There will be good, there will be bad, there will be glorious bits and there will be other bits that will be entirely un-glamorous. But if I have learned anything so far (other than how to put up about ten miles of hems) it will be what I make of it.
